Hotel Arnika is located in a quiet part and yet near the centre of the mountain spa town Janské Lázně (670 m above sea level), renowned for warm and slightly radioactive springs with healing powers that the locals have known about and used for a long time. The healing springs were discovered here in the 14th century. The spa resort was founded in the 17th century by the landowner Jan Adolf Schwarzenberg. The spa grew and expanded in the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century.
There are about 30 healing springs and a number of spa facilities in the area. Architectural sights include the art nouveau spa colonnade from the end of the 19th century and the pseudogothic church of Saint John the Baptist from 1885..
